Employee Spotlight: Harry Karambizi

Meet Harry

How long have you worked at Gather? My 1-year anniversary was Oct. 3, 2018.

How would you describe your role in one sentence? I test Gather extensively on behalf of our users to ensure quality and value.

Where did you work before joining Gather? Before joining Gather, I ran a hot-dog cart. I grew the small business from a pop-up to a catering company in 3 years. My background has been in food & beverage and hospitality. Prior to opening my food cart, I worked in hotels and conference centers as a sales manager for one of the largest event services companies in the world. I helped plan and design small meetings and large-scale productions for our clients.

What made you want to work at Gather? In my personal search for ways to build solutions for my small business and others like it, I began learning web development. When I heard about the Gather platform, I knew it was the place I wanted to be. Then, when I saw the company culture and met the leadership team, I knew it was the place I was meant to be.

What are your hobbies? Traveling and eating in other countries. I love going to the movies (alone and with friends). I am a sucker for small home-improvement projects — I just bought a Raspberry Pi starter kit [a small computer for learning programming] and am excited to start building some smart gadgets for the house.

What’s a fun fact about you? When I was a busboy, guests would sometimes film me cleaning and resetting tables because I would make a show of it — I would spin chairs, shoot my spray gun from my hip, make my towel dance like a lasso in the Ol’ West, and reset within 30 seconds.

What’s your favorite part about working at Gather? All of the people at Gather are committed to service. As an events veteran, it feels incredible to use my talents and my experience to contribute to the innovation of our industry.
