Gather Leadership Spotlight: Getting to Know the Newest Members

New year, new goals, new Gather leadership! Over the past few months, we have made some exciting executive hires. We’re thrilled about the wealth of experience they bring to the table and their vision for the business as we head into 2020. Let’s learn more about our new team members that are helping guide the future of Gather! 

Meet Tom McDermott, CFO

As CFO, Tom focuses on the financial health and scalable growth of Gather. In his role, he oversees financial strategy, accounting, financial planning and analysis, and business support functions. Prior to Gather, Tom was a Business Unit CFO at NCR and has also held financial leadership positions in software companies in the US and his native UK.

As the newest member of the team, we talked to Tom about what brought him to Gather. “There were several key elements that drove my decision to join Gather, the main two being the core values and the people. Everyone I met throughout the interview process was 100% aligned in what Gather stands for, where it’s going, and the opportunity that exists in front of us. Having met with more of the team since joining, I’m even more eager.”

When talking about the new year, he told us, “There is such an opportunity to grow and scale a fantastic business. I believe the infrastructure and more importantly, the culture and people are in place for this. 2020 will be a really fun and rewarding year!”

Meet Josh Child, Vice President of Sales

As the Vice President of Sales, Josh focuses on empowering small businesses and enterprises alike to streamline, manage, and scale their events programs. Josh is committed to powering growth for Gather and building a team that provides exceptional customer experience through every touchpoint in the sales process. Prior to joining Gather, Josh held leadership positions at Salesforce and G/O Digital.

When talking about why he joined Gather, Josh said, “I wanted my work to impact the broader organization rather than just the sales department. It’s been great to work cross-functionally with other departments, which I didn’t have the opportunity to do previously.”

Describing his time at Gather so far, he told us, “I get the opportunity to work with a strong leadership team and a technology that is disrupting the event management space. We get to improve life’s special events for our customers and their guests.”

Meet Jennifer Bardeen, Vice President of Operations

As the Vice President of Operations, Jennifer leads Gather’s People Operations and Customer Experience teams. She equips strong teams to build scalable processes and solutions that drive value for Gather’s employees and customers. Prior to Gather, Jennifer led technology support and content teams at nThrive.

Jennifer joined Gather because it gives her “the opportunity to build and enhance strategic programs that support the growth and development of Gather employees.” She also said, “I want to have a positive impact on every person within the organization by helping build highly engaged and high performing teams as well as drive customer success and adoption through value-based programs.” 

After a few months here, she says, “I love the fast pace of a growing startup. Everyone at Gather truly believes in our mission, and they have a strong desire to do the right thing to best serve our customers.” 

Meet Daniel Bassett, Vice President of Engineering

As Vice President of Engineering, Daniel leads Gather’s software engineering and product delivery teams. Daniel’s ultimate goal is to make sure our product scales as we continue to build innovative solutions for our customers. Prior to joining Gather, Daniel spent 15 years in the retail and hospitality software space in addition to serving as CIO/CTO for several growth-stage startups in Atlanta.

“After working in a large software organization in the hospitality space, I wanted to work for a smaller organization where I could have a greater impact on the direction of the product and the business,” Daniel said. “The culture at Gather was also very attractive to me.” 

When discussing what he has been most excited about since joining Gather, Daniel said, “The opportunity to bring new ideas to the engineering organization based on my experience at other companies. I have also enjoyed working closely with the executive team and having an equal voice on key decisions.”
