When a company has seen the growth and changes that Gather has in a few short years, it’s no surprise that each year brings plenty of evolution.
As 2018 draws to a close, we’ve been looking back at all we’ve accomplished — and what’s on the horizon next year and beyond.
We’re highlighting just a few of the milestones achieved this year — along with the partners, employees, investors, and customers that made it happen. From newly enhanced features to new company initiatives, a game-changing partner program and so much more, it’s been an exciting 12 months!
We made Gather better than ever through new product updates
We made huge strides and improvements to Gather this year to make our product better than ever for our clients. In 2018, we rolled out exciting enhancements for team and client communication. We added cc/bcc, automated responses to new lead inquiries, and a custom lead response for Gather Booking Network leads. We also added a handful of new reports and rolled out stronger event tracking and data, with archived lead reasons and canceled booking reasons.
But one of our biggest updates was to Gather’s mobile app. We first launched our app in 2016 to create a simple, seamless experience between desktop and mobile for planners on the go. App users can now create and edit leads, convert leads to bookings, send proposals, and so much more, no matter where they are. (Check out our Product Update archives here.)
We moved to a brand-new office to accommodate our growing team
As the Gather team continued to grow, we needed a new office to accommodate everyone and help us continue to scale comfortably (and quickly!). In August, the Gather team officially moved from our office in Atlanta’s Inman Park neighborhood to bigger digs in Midtown.
Our new office boasts dozens of conference spaces, bottomless coffee, plenty of room to grow, and tons of great skyline views to boot. And, of course, it’s still puppy friendly.
We’re connecting venues and planners with the industry’s largest booking network
July 2018 marked the official launch of the Gather Booking Network. This network aims to be a first-of-its-kind partner program connecting venues to the largest network of planners and diners in the world. Gather restaurants and venues get free listings on Gather Booking Network partner sites, where millions of planners and diners already go to discover and book events. The Booking Network helps Gather clients maximize their events calendars by serving up new leads from Yelp, EVENTup, BizBash, Wedding Spot, and Bizly, with more to come.
The average spend of an event booked through Gather is over $2,500. Since fully launching in October, the Gather Booking Network has generated a whopping $25 million in lead value. By providing new inquiries for social, corporate, convention and wedding-related events, we’re serving up new leads when clients need them.
We started the annual Gather Gives Day (and gave back in other ways too)
At Gather, we pride ourselves on giving back to the community. In the past, we’ve partnered with organizations like Open Hand Atlanta, The Giving Kitchen, and the local chapter of Everybody Wins.
In April, as part of National Volunteer Month, Gather launched its biggest volunteer initiative to date with the first-ever Gather Gives Day. The entire company split up into several teams, and each team participated in a morning or afternoon volunteer shift. We volunteered at PowerMyLearning, the Atlanta Humane Society, and the Atlanta Community ToolBank. We also raised money for a local back-to-school program and were able to buy hundreds of school supplies, backpacks, lunchboxes and more for kids in need.
Finally, during the holidays, we sponsored and hosted holiday parties for four local kindergarten classrooms. We supplied food, decor, and coloring books, and winter gloves for every child. It was one of our most rewarding volunteer initiatives to date, and we can’t wait to do more projects like it in the coming years.
We acquired the online venue marketplace EVENTup
This year, we were thrilled to welcome EVENTup into the Gather fold. Gather works with more than 5,000 restaurants and venues, while EVENTup has built a top marketplace for event spaces and venues that connects millions of event planners with more 7,500 event spaces in hundreds of cities across the country.
Gather and EVENTup have always been committed to the mission of making event planning simple, intuitive and fun. Together, we serve more than 12,500 restaurants, event spaces, and venues. Stay tuned for what we have in store for EVENTup in 2019!
We hosted events in cities across the country
Gather was on the go this year with tons of traveling. This gave us the opportunity to get in some great face-time with our clients to better understand their needs, talk about best practices, hear how their events programs are doing, and what’s ahead for them. We hosted fun events in cities including San Francisco, Nashville, Seattle, Portland, Austin, and Miami. We also traveled to Chicago for the James Beard Foundation’s Chef’s Night Out Event and to the TechTable Summit in New York City.
In September, we hosted the first Gather Advisory Summit in our hometown of Atlanta. We gathered dozens of Gather users for a day-long event of product panels, best-practices discussions, networking sessions, and relationship building. We’ll be accruing more frequent flyer miles next year — stay tuned for where we’re headed next!
We continued gaining momentum — and we’re excited for what’s to come
It’s been a truly exciting year for Gather, and we’ve reached many exciting milestones. We were recognized in the top 10% on Inc. Magazine’s list of the 5,000 fastest-growing companies in the U.S., which included getting a company shout-out in the magazine! Our hardworking sales team expanded to key markets outside of Atlanta and broke company ARR records. We added key roles to our leadership team, hiring Stewart Day as Gather’s Chief Financial Officer and Thomas Angst (formerly the Regional VP of Sales & Restaurant Relations at OpenTable) as Senior Vice President of Sales. We also more than doubled our headcount since last year, with more than 100 team members and counting!
So far in 2018, $2.2 billion in event revenue has been managed by Gather. We’ve also doubled the number of locations we serve since this time last year. And while we’d love to take time to sit and relish in these accomplishments, we’d rather share some high-fives (or cheers) and look forward to how we can keep propelling Gather toward greatness in the years to come.
